Clipper ship weathervane
An ode to a time when sailing clipper ship weathervanes stood atop many New England rooftops by the sea, inspiring nostalgic skippers home from their voyages.
David took inspiration from his late friend Joe Raynes, a third generation engineer and woodworker, and son of a Warren Raynes — a cabinetmaker and patternmaker for foundries — who built his first clipper ship weathervane from scratch based on a plan for the hull of The Flying Cloud from a picture in a library book. The Raynes ancestors built clipper ships out of Portsmouth, New Hampshire in the 1850s, and a lineage of talented engineers and woodworkers followed.
